Xi tells Blinken US and China should be 'accomplices, not opponents'

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday told top US representative Antony Blinken that the world's two greatest economies should be "accomplices, not rivals", however, there were "various issues" to be settled in their relations.

Blinken, in China for the second time in less than a year, met leading Chinese politicians in Beijing. US officials said he would directly raise pivotal areas of contrast including Russia, Taiwan, and exchange.

Meeting Blinken in Beijing's Great Hall of the People,  Xi said the two nations had "gained some sure headway" since he met with US President Joe Biden last year, as per state telecaster CCTV.

"The two nations should be accomplices, not rivals," Xi said. "There are as yet various issues that should be settled, and there is still space for additional endeavors," the Chinese leader added.

"We hope the US can also take a positive perspective on China's development," he added.

"At the point when this principal issue is settled [… ] relations can genuinely balance out, improve, and push ahead."

Earlier, China's foreign minister  Wang Yi cautioned Blinken that US tension could set off a "descending twisting", as the meeting negotiator raised worries on issues including support for Russia.

Wang also cautioned that the subject of self-controlled Taiwan was the "first red line" that should not be crossed in China-US relations.

Blinken portrayed his discussions with Wang at the Diaoyutai state guesthouse — which endured more than five and a half hours — as "broad and valuable".

The top US representative will speak to journalists later on Friday at the US embassy in Beijing.
