Hamas Urges Palestinians To Al-Aqsa Mosque In Ramadan

Hamas encouraged Palestinians on Wednesday to walk to Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque toward the beginning of Ramadan next month, upping the ante in exchanges for a truce in Gaza, which U.S. President Joe Biden expects will be set up by then.

The call by Hamas leader  Ismail Haniyeh followed remarks by Biden, broadcast on Tuesday, that there was an agreement on a basic level for a truce between Israel and Hamas during Ramadan, while prisoners held by the assailants are delivered.

Biden said he trusted such an agreement, which a source said would likewise permit more guidance into the stricken Palestinian territory and bring the arrival of Palestinian prisoners, could be finished by Walk 4. The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is supposed to start on the night of Walk 10.

Both Israel and Hamas have made light of the possibilities for a truce and Qatari go-betweens have said the most petulant issues are as yet unsettled.

Israel said on Monday it would permit Ramadan prayers at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque yet put down certain boundaries as per security needs, making way for potential conflicts on the off chance that hordes of Palestinians turn up and Gaza violence is as yet seething.

"This is an approach our people in Jerusalem and the West Bank to walk to Al-Aqsa starting from the first day of Ramadan," said Haniyeh, who described  Hamas' Oct. 7 frenzy into Israel as a transition to end Israeli assaults attacks on Palestinian domains and locales.

In a broadcast speech, he said Hamas was showing adaptability in talks with Israel and yet was prepared to battle. Israel has said any arrangement with Hamas would require the gathering to drop "amazing demands".

Hamas is checking a proposition, agreed by Israel at converses with mediators in Paris last week, for a 40-day ceasefire, which would be the first extended truce of the five-month-old conflict.

A senior source near the discussions said Israeli soldiers would haul out of populated regions under the agreement. In any case, it didn't seem to satisfy Hamas' need for an extremely durable finish to the war and Israeli withdrawal or resolve the destiny of battling age Israeli men among those being held by Hamas.
